I really like Andrew P. Collins as an automotive journalist so consider this mostly just teasing though. For those curious the “world’s largest 3D printed object” is a component for an assembly rig for carbon fiber wings (which makes it ironic I guess?)

It’s a tool. This is the most appropriate use for 3D printing in aircraft assembly at the moment, we don’t know enough about it structurally to be major airframe components yet.
It’s especially useful in development because it's far cheaper than a traditional tool and easier to test different layouts

It’s useful because remote maintenance depots may one day be able to print specialized tools and dies on demand.
